– The PDP has finally responded to a report of alleged planned defection within its ranks
– A chieftain of the party, Ali Odefa, has questioned the veracity of the said report
– The executive said all PDP governors in the southeast are loyal to the party
A report claiming that some governors from the southeast are planning to defect to the All progressives Congress (APC) has been dismissed.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stated that no governor on its platform from the southeast is considering defecting to any other party.
According to This Day, the national vice-chairman of the party in the zone, Ali Odefa, made the disclosure during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Awka on Monday, January 4.
He said there was no cause for concern over the strength of the party in the southeast.
Odefa stated that:
Anambra is fully a PDP state….Enugu is PDP, Abia is fully PDP too. You may have heard one rumour or the other, that a governor from the zone is planning to leave, but it is not true. No governor is leaving PDP.
“We all know what happened in Ebonyi and we are happy that the governor there left. We are not feeling any void at all; the state still remains a PDP state.”
The party executive advised PDP members in the state who had filed suits against the party to immediately withdraw them in the interest of the party.
He said the aim was to ensure that the party went into the forthcoming 2021 governorship election in Anambra State as a united house.
Meanwhile, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has finally broken the silence about a rumour that he is planning to dump his party for the APC
The Nation reported that the governor said he has no plan defect from the PDP
Ikpeazu said the PDP is the dominant party in Abia state.
