President Muhammadu Buhari has said he wants Imams, Bishops, top musicians and sports personalities in the country to take COVID-19 vaccine shots on live television.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state, revealed this to pressmen at the State House after meeting with the Nigerian leader on Friday, January 8 in Abuja.

According to a report by Daily Sun, Governor Fayemi said President Buhari wants the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF) to add more prominent Nigerians to the list of those who will take the vaccination on live TV.

The move, President Buhari said, is to boost public confidence in the safety of COVID-19 vaccine administration.

Fayemi said:

“Mr. President has agreed with me that he would convey to the PTF the necessity of using other influencers, maybe the Chief Imams, the Bishops, top musicians, our sports personalities.”

“Because the more of such people are seen taking the vaccines the more the likelihood of resistance will break down in our various localities.”

The southwestern governor also commended the presidency and the PTF for choosing to lead by example and be vaccinated on live TV.

“I commended the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 for at least, wanting to use Mr. President and the Vice President as their publicity vehicles for reassuring those who may have their doubts about vaccines use that, this is no threats to them.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng also reported that governors under the umbrella of NGF expressed willingness to take their COVID-19 vaccine shots on live television when Nigeria gets the drug.

The governors explained that they want to do this to boost the confidence of ordinary Nigerians in the efficacy and safety of the COVID-19 vaccines.
