Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain with his contract with the Spanish League side expiring at the end of the season.

A number of clubs including Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain, Inter Milan, and others have shown interest but it is left to be seen where the 33-year-old might be going next summer.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner recently told the media that he would love to play in the United States before he hangs his boots, however, he did not reveal when he will make the move.

However, SunSport has compiled a list of seven superstars who made mistakes leaving the Blaugrana despite their impacts.

Neymar Jr –

The Brazilian sealed a move away from Barcelona in a deal valued around £198 million, but his quest of living under Messi’s shadows has not paid off for him.

Since he joined the Parisians, he has been looking for a way to return to the Nou Camp and reunite with the Argentine.

He recently admitted that he wants to play along with the Argentine again and that has sparked up PSG’s interest in the forward.

Claudio Bravo –

Bravo left Barcelona for Manchester City in 2016after losing his number one position to German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

However, he was unable to replicate his form during his reign with the Catalans in England as he received heavy backlash after making a blunder during their derby against Manchester United.

He has since returned to the Spanish League but this time with Real Betis.

Bojan Krkic –

The 30-year-old Spaniard currently plays for MLS side Montreal Impact after failing to find form in top European Leagues.

He left Barcelona in 2011 for Roma but that move was quickly followed by more loan moves to Milan, Ajax, and others.

Victor Valdes

The Spaniard joined Manchester United from Barcelona in January 2015 but he failed to shine at Old Trafford and he played just twice before being offloaded to Standard Liege.

Hristo Stoichkov

The Bulgarian legend joined Parma barely one year after winning the Ballon d’Or as a Barcelona player in 1994 and he struggled to find the back of the net in Italy afterward.

He won four LaLiga titles in a row while scoring 108 goals in 214 appearances during his five-year reign at the Nou Camp.

Deco

The midfielder was one of the best players to have represented Barcelona as he was instrumental to their Champions League triumph in 2006 during his four-year sojourn.

But his £8 million transfer to Chelsea failed to materialise as he became a subject of circumstance after Luiz Felipe Scolari was sacked.

Patrick Kluivert

Kluivert reunited with Louis van Gaal at Barcelona in 1998 having already played for him at Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam.

The striker was the Catalans’ top scorer for three of the six seasons he spent at the Nou Camp after which he left to join Premier League side Newcastle United but failed to replicate his form for them.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Lionel Messi has declared interest in playing in the Major League Soccer in the future claiming he would love to play in the United States someday.

The future of the Argentine legend remains in doubt as his contract expires at the end of the season amid interests from Premier League club Manchester City.

In his latest interview with Argentine outlet La Sexta, Messi revealed the current situation at Spanish club Barcelona and also spoke about his future.
